TRAVERSE CITY, MI - Local Guide

GET WHAT YOU NEED NEARBY!

Your closest option for groceries, gas or supplies is the Courtrade Trading Post, about two miles away. It's a local-owned convenience store that carries select grocery items, hygiene products, alcohol (beer, liquor, and wine), and outdoor supplies like firewood or bait and tackle.

The nearest restaurant, without driving into town, is the excellent Peegeos (about 2.5 miles away). They serve a variety of staple American, Italian, and Mexican options with a quick takeout option if you feel like eating in. We highly recommend the massive fajita burritos.

For bigger grocery hauls, we recommend the Meijer on M-72, or Oleson's Grocery at 11000 E Hammond Rd, both of which is about 15 minutes away.

Otherwise, downtown Traverse City is about 10 miles away and we've compiled some recommendations of our favorite locations below!

Mackinac Island

The Mackinac Bridge

The Mackinac Bridge

Take a ferry into the past. Bicycles and horse drawn carriage are the primary modes of transportation on Mackinaw Island. Take a bike tour around the island to visit the historic sites, such as Fort Mackinaw -- the site of a successful British invasion during the war of 1812. Plus, if you've got a sweet tooth, it's also the fudge capital of the world.

Mackinac Bridge - North Michigan Tourist destinations - Local Guide

The Mighty Mac is a five-mile long suspension bridge that spans the straits of Mackinaw, and your gateway to the natural wonderland of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. But getting there is half the fun, and you'll have a marvelous view of the straits and Mackinaw island from the peak of the bridge.

Charlevoix

Fishtown Michigan

Leland,Michigan -- better known as Fishtown -- is a monumental piece of Michigan history, where the state's heritage of fishing remains alive and vibrant. Walk the streets of a weathered fishing village, among old fish shanties, smoke houses, and dockyards. You won't ever experience a piece of history quite like this.

Charlevoix

Charlevoix

Charlevoix

Charlevoix is a beautiful and historic resort community on the shores of Lake Michigan, drizzled in eccentric locales and attractions. Check out the Charlevoix Mushroom Houses, a set of homes that look like something no architect could design (because the man who designed them definitely wasn't an architect). Definitely don't miss the beautiful waterside parks and lighthouses as well.

Petosky

Elk Rapids

Petosky, Michigan

Downtown Petosky, located on the Grand Traverse Bay, is "one of the most treasured downtowns in the United States." There are over 170 unique shopping and dining locations within the famous gaslight district, plus it's the best place to dig around on the beach for the native, shimmery Petosky stones.

Elk Rapids

Elk Rapids is a paradise for boaters, sunbathers, and day trippers located in the unique charm of south Antrim County. Check out the beautiful and renowned Black Star Farms for a rich winery experience. The downtown shopping district is a bountiful antiquing experience, and you won't want to miss out on the local crafts community.
